A lil bit of SPRING

I respect many designers work, but when it comes to my particular tastes, I adore the outrages or theatrical or the over the top. I LOVE edgy shit and work that is balances on the fence of wearable and non wearable.
I have been looking at some spring 2011 shows and fell in love with Viktor & Rolf's collection inspired by The Classic Men's Shirt. The silhouettes are over the top and exagerate the hard edges of men's shirts. At first, i assumed the collection was inspired by picasso's Blue Period, by the abstracted asymetrical cuts of the dresses and garments, but the work has a sense of the blue collard male but is reinterpreted for women's clothing.
Check out the show for yourself and check out the pics.

I kEEp my HURR avant garde

One of the top hairstylist in the world, Peter Grey collaborate with former assistant Masa Honda to showcase the amazing hair editorial, photographed by Takahiro Ogawa as part of the Asia Beauty Expo. Aside from inviting 17 stylists, including Nicola Formichetti, Patti Wilson and Robbie Spencer, to customize a simple men’s jumpsuit, the show also featured the cream of recent Parsons and Central Saint Martins alumni, including Jackie Lee, Paula Cheng and Thomas Tait.
I adore the styling in these photos, plus i love anything that kind of obstructs the face or head. I also am someone that enjoys monochromatic pallets in fashion, but that can be very boring when there is nothing else to heighten the level of what the garment holds, such as lovely textures or tedious tailoring. The hair and accessories used in these shots truly highlight the craftsmanship in the garments and i am very pleased to see such a creative team of professionals come together to create such an attractive and perfect aesthetic.

Reality Taxidermia

Merging traditional photographic techniques with digital methods, the Norwegian photographer Simen Johan creates each of his images from start to finish. Using techniques of taxidermy and photography and editing across his body of work, the viewer is urged to ponder the relationship between the real and the artificial or imagined. In his photographs, he darkly explores the human proclivity towards fantasy and our attempts, knowing or otherwise, to craft alternate realities for ourselves.

Alexandra Owen

So I have finished my apprenticeship at Ralph Lauren, and the experience has truly influenced my tastes in fashion. The constant visuals of RL's classic 1940-esque American styling has seeped into what i intend to look for when it comes to garments i find aesthetically pleasing in a wearable sense. However, i am always intrigued by the "strange" and to bridge these gaps between classy and avant guard is difficult; but when i came across New Zealand designer, Alexandra Owen's work, i was pleased to see a designer making work that has truly bridged these gaps.
For her A/W 2010 collection, chic, refined lines are accentuated by sinuous, sensual fabrics and more structured, assertive pieces, demonstrating an elusive depth and maturity to her work. The silhouette was taken from tailored, aristocratic menswear, and a distinctively equestrian tone that pervades the entire collection. Shimmering earth tones are complimented with fur stoles, a leather blazer and even a couple bridal pieces (horse bridal) The garments exhibit sophistication but Owen's overall approach to her work is slightly abstract. in an interview in Zink Magazine, Owen explains some facts to what inspires her approach- "I have very abstract influences a lot of the time. A feeling i want to create a mood. I often find gems in old films and moments from my mind and daily life etched in my head."
Her overall work is what i consider fascinating and lovely with a slight mood of oddity, so check out these images below and her website for runway shows and more.

The Artisian Collection by Noritaka Tatehana

Noritaka Tatehana's Artisian Collection is an accessory collection inspired by Metamorphosis. You've probably seen Lady Gaga rockin these bitches. nuff said, just check it out.

Iris Van Herpen

I have fallin in love with the Dutch born and based designer, Iris Van Herpen. Her work is intense and her concepts for creating collections are Amazing!
Synesthesia is Her latest Fall/Winter 2010-2011 collection which was “inspired by the cross -sensational phenomenon of feeling sound, smelling motion, and hearing color.

For her collection for the A/W of 09, Iris translated the concept of mummification into intricate techniques of wrapping and twisting cords of gold, bronze, and cream leather to form her garments. The result is an insane sculptural collection. Mummification is the idea that life is an illusion and in death, one could create their own reality.

Here is her website. pretty sick <3
